Mr. Ekooba Gyasi
The Ekooba
Gyasi Kente Enterprise, in conjunction with the Centre for Indigenous
Knowledge Systems (CEFIKS), has set up the Bonwire Kente Weaving
Institute at Bonwire, near Kumasi, Ghana.
The Bonwire Kente Weaving Institute is directed by Mr. Ekooba Gyasi, a
master weaver, judged as the overall best weaver at the 2002 Bonwire
Kente Festival.
Mr. Gyasi has demonstrated, lectured and taught kente weaving in schools in Ghana, and in schools and museums across the USA.
The Bonwire Kente Weaving Institute
- offers classes for beginners, intermediate, advanced students
- offers individual classes as well as classes for families and groups
- each student works at his/her own loom
- offers 1-day; 1-week; 2-week and 3-week classes
- full room and board included on school premises

The primary focus of CEFIKS is to
- record, preserve and disseminate information about indigenous knowledge systems.
- serve as a clearinghouse of indigenous knowledge systems from various communities
within and without Ghana.
- support and advocate the use of indigenous knowledge systems in the socio-economic
development process in Ghana and the region of West Africa.
The Centre is affiliated with CEFIKS Publications based in the United States.
